Last year, our co-founder Wendy excitedly announced that we would be doing something we had not done before: celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) in May.

This made total sense. In mid 2025, our team made a strategic move to focus on inclusive design and accessibility as part of our portfolio of services. Taking part in GAAD was another way for us to dive into the crucial and meaningful work of accessible design.

Which is how our team came to organise not one but three GAAD events in May 2026. A workshop on designing digital experiences for the visually impaired, a hands-on co-designing session to craft assistive tools with 3D printing, and a panel discussion on how accessibility can be a catalyst for better digital products.

As a team, we are always looking to learn to improve ourselves and our work. So as a first time organiser of GAAD events, we asked ourselves: How might we organise GAAD events that really puts accessibility at the heart and centre of it?

This meant constantly asking: Is it accessible? That was the litmus test. On all fronts and at each step.

This one question formed our decisions. From the platform we chose to feature our events (Eventbrite) to the venue of our panel discussion (10 Square), we made a conscious effort to prioritise accessibility.

Which led us to another realisation: not all event venues in Singapore are accessible (yet). So since we've done our research, we thought we'd share the wheelchair accessible venues we found and recce'd for when you organise your next in-person event in Singapore.

Caveat: this list is not exhaustive. There may be venues we missed, but from those that we reached out to, here are the ones that you can consider if you want to make sure your event is truly welcoming of wheelchair users.

We scoured a number of venues with our own specific list of requirements, so the scale and nature of your gathering will likely whittle down your list of choices too. Your event budget as well as location are two other factors that surely will come into play when you finally decide on the 'right' venue for your event.

Here is our list of wheelchair accessible venues in Singapore you can look into for your next inclusive in-person event.

All these venues have:

  • Wheelchair friendly entrances

  • Wheelchair accessible restrooms and lifts on the same floor as the event space

  • Corridors and walkways wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs

  • Sufficient space to accommodate wheelchair-bound participants

  • Flat stages (unless specified)

We've also dug into the details for each one - how to get there, what the seating and stage set-up looks like for wheelchair users, and how to reach them via their website.

10 Square @ Orchard

The wheelchair ramp leads to the front door of the auditorium

This is where we held our GAAD panel event. It's located in the heart of Orchard Road - a big plus when gathering people in Singapore. When you book the Auditorium, it comes with the reception area next to it. There’s a flat screen in the reception area which you can use for videos and slideshows. Make sure to arrange for tables so wheelchair users can eat and drink comfortably.

10 Square is also the venue where you cannot miss the wheelchair ramp! It’s not in some hidden corridor, it is right there at the side of the reception area.

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Somerset

Closest bus stops: Midpoint (09038) and Orchard Plaza (08137)

Drop-off: side entrance of Orchard Central, along Killiney Road

Wheelchair users will find it easy to get to 10 Square, as long as they find the right lift lobby, which is the green lifts (Lobby A) at Level 1 of Orchard Central. The path from the MRT, as well as the drop-off point is sheltered.

Stage and seating

The Auditorium can hold 112 people, and there is space in front of the first row for wheelchair users. The wheelchair ramp gets you to the Auditorium and the restroom.

Performances, film screening, panel discussions, presentations

Cocoon Space

Another option is Cocoon Space, also centrally located in the Design Orchard building at the corner of Orchard and Cairnhill Roads. We checked out their seminar rooms for our event.

Cocoon’s Seminar Rooms 1 and 2 (Courtest of Cocoon Space)

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Somerset

Closest bus stop: on Orchard Road before Cairnhill Road (09037)

Drop-off: behind Design Orchard building, with a wheelchair-accessible path to the lift

Wheelchair users get to Cocoon Space seminar rooms via the lift at the drop-off behind Design Orchard building.

Stage and seating

When arranged in theatre style, the Seminar Rooms can accommodate 100 people. There’s no elevated stage, easy for wheelchair users to navigate.

Accessible restroom is on the same floor but tucked in the office area. The corridor door uses a manual knob (twist and push), which could be hard to manage independently.

Common Ground

Common Ground’s Atrium (Courtesy of Common Ground)

The spacious Atrium on the ground floor is great for events. We like this venue a lot, but the one catch is that it's in Bedok so not central, something you should take into consideration, depending on where your attendees are likely to be coming from.

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Bedok

Closest bus stop: right outside the building, after Heartbeat@Bedok (84651)

Drop-off: carpark behind the building. There’s a wheelchair-accessible path to the entrance. There’s no clear Grab pickup point - expect to be dropped by the carpark road.

Stage and seating

The Atrium on the ground floor is flat and open for flexible seating.

In the third floor Auditorium, removable front-row seats let wheelchair users sit in the middle, not off to the side, which is a great feature that makes wheelchair users feel part of the audience.

Glass Dome

Glass Dome’s level 1 in theatre-style seating, level 2 is the spacious balcony

Glass Dome is a wheelchair friendly venue that has hosted events for non-profit organisations whose wheelchair-user participants navigated easily.

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Telok Ayer (Exit D), a sheltered 2-min walk

Closest bus stop: Opposite Hong Lim Complex on South Bridge Road (05199), but you’ll have to cut through Nankin Street

Drop-off: The Ya Kun drop-off point sits along China Street and feels less safe. Streets nearby can be confusing. Glass Dome's website has more detailed wayfinding.

Stage and seating

Levels 1 and 2 can be rented separately. The stage has steps, though a ramp is available for an extra cost. Seating is movable, so it's easy to make room for wheelchairs.

Level 1 is massive and can accommodate 450 seats while Level 2 sits 150.

The accessible restroom is a 2-min walk away, but the corridor door opens via a button above a fire hose cabinet. Some wheelchair users may need help reaching it.

National Design Centre

National Design Centre’s Auditorium

Now managed by the University of Arts Singapore, National Design Centre in Bugis has a few venues for hire on both the ground level and the second floor, including an auditorium, a gallery and a spacious atrium.

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Bugis

Closest bus stops: St. Joseph's Church on Victoria Street (01013) and Before Waterloo Street bus stop on Middle Road (07561).

Drop-off: back of the building on Queen Street

Stage and seating

The Atrium on Level 1 is flat, open and bright, no stage-access issues, good for large gatherings.

The Gallery on L2 is flat, but small, and could be tight to navigate for wheelchair users if there are exhibits set up.

The Auditorium on Level 2 has a stage that is only one step high, so it requires a ramp for wheelchair users that the National Design Centre can provide. There is built-in seating, but two wheelchairs can fit comfortably on each side. If there are more than four wheelchair users, it would be tight.

National Library (Bugis)

Programme Room 1 in Central Library, National Library Building, Bugis (Courtesy of NLB)

There are many multi purpose spaces you can consider at the National Library Building as the building is fully wheelchair friendly. It’s a great choice because it accommodates not only wheelchair users but people with other types of disabilities too.

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Bugis

Closest bus stop: The most wheelchair friendly route is when you get off at Bras Basah bus stop (01019) on Victoria Street. NLB even provides wheelchair friendly routes to all NLB libraries

Drop-off: on Victoria Street side of NLB

Stage and seating

We got to recce event spaces at the Central Library on basement 1 where there’s a large area that is usually partitioned into three event spaces.

Programme room 1 can accommodate 100-150 people and is the biggest venue. Next to it is Programme room 2 which fits 1-00-120 and the Immersive Room, which is a room for projection installations that can fit 50 to 80.

Since NLB accepts requests for accessibility arrangements for attendees of their programmes, don’t hesitate to reach out to them if you need this for your event as well.

These spaces at Central Library are available for use by request via NLB’s venue sponsorship at Facilities Enquiry

*SCAPE

*SCAPE Gallery

With 17 indoor and outdoor venues to choose from, you will be spoiled for choice at *SCAPE. All venues are wheelchair accessible. The Ground Theatre, The TreeTop and Gallery feature wheelchair-friendly access points, gentle slopes, and leveled entrances.

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Somerset

Closest bus stops: although the bus stop opposite Ngee Ann City (09011) is closest to the drop-off point of *SCAPE, its path is circuitous with narrow and a short but steep slope, which could be challenging to wheelchair users. The best and closest one for wheelchair users is the bus stop Somerset Youth Park on Grange Road (09059).

Drop-off: Orchard Link side of *SCAPE

Stage and seating

The Ground Theatre is one of Orchard Road's largest indoor event venues and can seat 820. There is a ramp for wheelchair users to access the stage and accessible restrooms backstage.

The TreeTop seats up to 100 and can be divided into three sections. The room has a flat, open layout, with restrooms located just outside.

The Gallery has built-in seating for 70 and fits 3 wheelchairs on each side, though set apart from the main seating with a less ideal view of the screen or stage.

Temasek Shophouse

The Living Room at Temasek Shophouse (Courtesy of Temasek Shophouse)

Temasek Shophouse is a social impact hub focused on building connected communities. It’s one of the most accessible venues and one of the easiest to get to as it is beside Dhoby Ghaut MRT. Since it re-opened this year, it has designed accessibility thoughtfully both inside the building and in the outdoor community space.

Take note that you need to apply to use any of their spaces, as they vet who gets to use their space. This is because the events they support need to link back to the social or environmental impact aligned to their mission. This includes the involvement of underserved communities, the advocacy for pressing social issues, or programming that at its core contributes meaningfully to sustainability, climate action or social good.

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Dhoby Ghaut

Closest bus stop: the After Dhoby Ghaut bus stop (08058) right in front of Temasek Shophouse. The other bus stop nearby are Dhoby Ghaut bus stop (08057)

Drop-off: There's a dropoff point behind Temasek Shophouse on Handy Road where a sheltered wheelchair-friendly walkway takes you to the side entrance

Stage and seating

The Living Room can accommodate 60 people and is ideal for casual events. There is no stage, making it easier for wheelchair users.

Banyan Cove is the biggest space on level 1 and can accommodate 150 people. This is a great option if you’re gathering a large group. Like the Living Room, there is no stage platform here as well.

Tembusu Canopy on the third floor has a modular stage which can be removed if not needed. It can accommodate 150 people.

Visual Arts Centre

The view from outside Visual Arts Centre’s Exhibition Gallery (Courtesy of Visual Arts Centre)

The Exhibition Gallery is a unique ground floor glasshouse situated beside the Dhoby Ghaut Green Park, just above Dhoby Ghaut MRT. We loved the location but take note that the shortest period of time you can rent the space is one day, which didn't work for us as we only needed four hours in total (including pre and post event).

Accessibility notes:

Wayfinding

Nearest MRT: Dhoby Ghaut. Exit via the North-South Line, elevator right outside the gantry, fully sheltered.

Closest bus stops: alight at either the bus stop at Dhoby Ghaut Station Exit B on Penang Street (08031) or the Dhoby Ghaut bus stop on Orchard Road (08057)

Drop-off: There’s one nearby that is usually locked, so you’ll need to ask the venue to open it.

Stage and seating

The Gallery is a spacious, open, customisable and comfortable space area, giving event organisers the freedom to set up the room and create space for the wheelchair visitors.
