Designing a seamless UX app journey to math mastery
iMath
About client
iMath uses a tech-enabled yet human-centric approach to provide convenient, on-demand help for anyone to learn math.
iMath is an online community of math enthusiasts, parents and tutors who offer quality learning and caring coaching to any student anywhere, anytime.
Challenge
Even though the iMath app was well engineered, it wasn’t intuitive to use. The mobile app needed to provide a user experience that was easy to understand, quick to adopt, and delightful to use.
Solution
Give the existing brand a distinguishable, strong, and attractive brand personality aligned with who the company is as a publisher, and apply that consistently across their website for memorability
Results
An app that responds to user needs
Our research revealed that the greatest challenge parents faced on the app was finding the right tutor they could feel confident their child would be safe with.
To help them with their search, we designed filters to narrow down suitable tutors, a tutor profile page with each tutor’s personal introduction, and a messaging system for parents to get connected before engaging with a tutor. We also designed booking a suitable time slot with a tutor simple and fast.
Meanwhile, a common struggle private tutors faced was collecting their tuition fees on time. To address this, we introduced credit card payment on the app so parents pay for the tutor’s services once they confirm the booking.
A better working product
Our client already had a working product. To deliver a suitable solution, we studied every possible user journey to understand what was already built and feasible, and what may need to be re-engineered.
Then we proposed new wireframes and user flows for every feature, while keeping in mind, as much as possible, what we could keep so as not to spend time and resources redoing the whole product from scratch.
Math and tuition are often associated with negative emotions for both the parents and the child. To make learning math creative, cheerful and fun, we adopted bright, bold and contrasting colours to bring out energetic and liveliness vibes. Illustrations were chosen to ensure the style and content contributed to the positive experience.
Overall, 55 Minutes recalibrated the user journeys towards easy navigation, while addressing the pain points of parents, tutors and students alike.
"The 55 Minutes team took the time to understand our user base, audience and business and integrate the UI and UX that is aligned to our vision and mission. A truly human-centred approach. The whole process was pleasant, efficient and effective. This is a trusted working relationship that I appreciate and I’m grateful for.”
